Ward 105 2021/2022 IDP Priorities
by Cllr Stefanie Ueckermann — DA Ward 105 Councillor in Ekurhuleni
Date: 11 November 2020
Type: Media statement
As the Democratic Alliance (DA) elected Ward 105 Councillor in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), I am entrusted with representing the interests and needs of all residents in the ward. This includes submitting an Integrated Development Plan (IDP) as legislated by the Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000, consisting of five capital projects that the CoE has to budget for. This is to ensure that we improve the surroundings and the quality of life for all residents of Ward 105.
I am proud to confirm that the following items were submitted to the relevant IDP Coordinator for consideration by the CoE:
2021/22 REVIEWED IDP NEEDS
1. Upgrading of pump station on c/o Colliery & Springs Roads.
This item has been included in the budget as R40 million has been allocated to alleviate the constant water shortages and low water pressure in Sallies Village, Sunnair Park and Dalview. The new water reservoir construction is almost complete, and phase one and two will be starting soon.
Roads & Stormwater
2. Replacement of sewer pipe under Springs Road and re-evaluation at sewer system
There is R20 million budgeted for this project. This is to stop the recurring sewer blockages in Springs Road and Dirk van der Hoff Street.
3. High mast lighting at all parks and open fields in ward 105.
There is a need for proper lighting in open, public spaces. In the previous financial year, high mast lights went up in Minnebon at the outdoor Eco gym, Dalpark 1 and in Dalview. In the next financial year, we will be requesting high mast lights in Larrendale, Sonneveld and at the post-boxes in Minnebron. The erection of the high mast lights has reduced crime in the conjoined areas.
4. Rehabilitation of a park on End and Gardener Streets into a bird sanctuary and recreational facility and running route.
This will aid in reducing illegal recycling and dumping in the area.
5. Widening of West street between Lower and Graff including the upgrade of stormwater drainage system
West, Lower, Dirk van der Hoff and Graaf Streets where resurfaced in the previous financial year. This year, we will propose the resurfacing of Mynhardt, Ruth, Norfolk, Viking and Small Streets, leading to the Brakpan Testing and Licensing Centre.
Roads & Stormwater
Although the current Council Term ends prior to the 2021 Local Government Elections, the items will remain on the IDP List until they are replaced or removed by the Ward Committee structure.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni is urging the ANC-led CoE to prioritise these needs, as the fulfilment of these needs will improve the residents’ quality of life.
